Use this guide when handheld or presentation scanners fail to read labels quickly or consistently.

  • Sunmi 2D Handheld Scanner
  • Star Micronics Wireless 1D/2D Barcode Scanner
  • Optional integrated scanners on Sunmi P3 Mix, Sunmi P3 Air, and Sunmi P3H variants

Before you begin

  • Clean scanner lens with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Confirm scanner power and host connection are stable.
  • Keep test labels in both 1D and 2D formats.

Steps

  1. Verify scanner cable, cradle, or wireless pairing status.
  2. Test a known-good barcode and QR code at standard scanning distance.
  3. Adjust angle slightly to reduce reflection from glossy labels or phone screens.
  4. Increase screen brightness when scanning mobile QR codes.
  5. Confirm scan engine is configured for required symbologies.
  6. Test with damaged or low-contrast labels to check sensitivity limits.
  7. Restart scanner and host device, then retest with known-good codes.
  8. If read failures persist, update scanner firmware or replace the scan engine module.
